Apple iPad 2
Bad news for you iPad fans who bought yours yesterday or a couple of days ago. Apple has just released a thinner, more powerful and more camera’d iPad 2. It uses a dual-core A5 chip for faster processing and even faster graphics running the iOS 4 operating system. There’s FaceTime as well, going along with the two cameras, front and back. Apple’s considerate enough to ship the iPad 2 with the Smart Cover that snaps magnetically for protection and for propping up the tablet at an angle. Of course it still has the multi-touch display, accelerometer and three-axis gyroscope. But the new iPad will have a compass built within for you outdoorsy types. And the 10-hour battery life should be enough time for you to complete at least a level of Angry Birds. $500+.

The gestures are still in there, but only for development devices. It has to be marked in Xcode as a dev device.

We never found out (from Apple) about the A4 chip’s specs, or the 3GS memory either… What can be accessed is limited in the SDK, and iOS, but we actually suspect it’s more than we’re given access to. Point is, it’s not 256M anymore (the iPhone 4 was 512M, at least). It;s limited to 512M now by the SDK, but I bet the chip has 1GB available to it, since the A5 is based on the Cortex A9, and it supports either 256, 512, or 1GB per core, and Apple already managed 512 on a single core SOI, so doubling that on a dual core would be the least expected. It could theoretically be 2GB.
