“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” That’s an excerpt from ‘The New Colossus’ from Emma Lazarus’ sonnet engraved on the Statue of Liberty. The iconic city has seen her fair share of nationalities and peoples from all walks of life. Brandon Stanton attempts to capture all that with ‘Humans of New York’, a 304-page hard bound book featuring 400 color photographs of some of the city’s diverse range of people. What started as a blog turned out to be a chronicle of the city’s census, along with a couple of quotes and anecdotes to go along with the photos. It will be out in the middle of October. $19.
