While the ThunderBolt connection may be exciting because of the potential speed, not everyone gets to enjoy it. LaCie thinks of those going the USB 3.0 route with the 2big and 4big Quadra external drives. Available from 2TB to 6TB capacities, the Quadra uses a combination of RAID systems for speed and redundancy. The 2big uses RAID 0 and 1 while the 4big runs on RAID 0 and 5. A UAS (USB-Attached SCSI) Protocol working together with 7,200rpm drives could potentially transfer 10GB’s worth of data in less than 60 seconds. Not only are the drives fast, they look good too, thanks to Neil Poulton’s design prowess. $500+.
