Different photo projects or assignments call for different approaches. It all begins with the photographer and whatever equipment that he/she uses. There are times when you want to be discreet – to blend in with your subject and your environment. That’s actually very hard to do with a beefy D-SLR with a humongous lens on the front end. Most people won’t feel comfortable facing that combo. Leica satisfies your discretion needs with the new Leica M-P. Sure, the Leica is known for being a bit on the pricey end but this new camera is unlike anything that the company has released before. Immediately noticeable is the absence of the patented red dot in front of the M-P. Whatever the reasoning behind its removal, Leica sure isn’t announcing to the world the particular brand of this shooter by their familiar logo. The M-P is also stripped down to the bare minimum of what a photographer actually needs. It comes with 2 GB of RAM to let you rip plenty of shots. And it’s gonna need that too, since the Leica M-P is equipped with a 24 MP CMOS sensor along with the Leica Maestro image processor. It may be more compact but this camera is built tough, with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass covering the LCD screen at the back. There’s also some level of weather protection from the chassis, so a light rain or some dust won’t hinder your shooting duties. That said, the Leica M-P still costs some serious amount of coin. But it’s discreet so potential thieves may go and find another target. It’s available for pre-order now. $8,000.
