The Russian Special Forces or Spetznaz (equivalent to the US Green Berets) have developed a type of shovel that’s also a hatchet and a multi-purpose blade, similar to this one. Heat-treated medium carbon steel is forged into a shovel head and socket. The edges are sharpened afterwards, giving the shovel another purpose. This may be used as an axe or a general-purpose blade.
