Portable external hard drives have become tough and scar-proof over the years but at the other end of the spectrum are these classy external storage drives from Brinell. Their Purestorage S (2.5″) and XS (1.8″) models come in materials that you wouldn’t normally find in a portable HDD. First in the line is the Understatement model that’s made of Macassar wood accented by black chrome stainless steel. The Elegant series on the other hand is made of Nappa leather with mirror-polished steel frame. And lastly, the Engineered series is made of carbon and stainless steel. Storage capacity is either 160 or 500GB. ~$280+.

So what’s keeping you from working or playing on your laptop wherever you want in the room? It’s those pesky wires right? Well, Klipsch takes their award-winning audio system and cuts off the wires. The ProMedia 2.1 Wireless receives audio signals through a 2.4GHz channel so you don’t have to be tied down to your speakers. And if you have an iPhone and a Wi-Fi setup, you can even control your tunes via the Remote Application. It’s a big let down to still use punch cards for attendance and finger prints for identity verification. Any business would look really amazing when installed with facial recognition and time attendance systems. What it does is use 3D facial recognition system to track attendance of employees and also provide access to doors. By 3D we mean that it’s not going to be fooled by holding up a simple picture of a person for an intruder to get access. The system can be setup to recognize and log information like attendance, overtime and even late arrivals for up to 500 different employees, and records can be downloaded to a USB flash drive or accessed via TCP/IP when the console is connected to a network. $480.

When you’re seriously serious about getting a lot of work done or a lot of games won, you may need to shift your focus. Stay away from bloated, mainstream PCs and shift to Maingear’s SHIFT. The tower of power is big in size (24″ high and 21″ long) and big in performance. Based on the Intel i7 Quad-core processor, the aluminum-skinned rig also packs a bottom-to-top cooling system to maintain peak performance from all its parts. Basic inventory includes a 512MB GeForce, 4GB Kingston DDR3 RAM, and a 750 GB SATA HDD among others. The system is also future-compatible with several expansion slots giving you room for further improvement. Maingear also offers a lifetime support for your system where you can talk directly to the builder that assembled your rig. $2,200+.

Like the preventable heartaches or even heart attacks that you could possibly incur if you drop an expensive gadget such as your iPhone – if you just had a decent protective cover for it. The VOi! hard shell case, for example, prevents those who have butterfingers from introducing their iPhone to the pavement. The case itself has a lanyard so you can hang on to your iPhone. So you’ve finally graduated from point-and-shoots and bought yourself a nice DSLR camera. You take thousands of photos but you become disappointed since most of your shots still suck. Red eyes and nuked faces are common if you use the camera’s onboard flash. You need better lighting; but before you whip out your black card and buy those expensive speed lights and external lights, you should consider the Lightscoop first. It’s a clever flash modifier that fits in the camera’s hotshoe mount to deflect the light coming out of the flash. What you’ll get is a more natural light when bounced off a ceiling or a wall. With proper technique and practice, you can improve your shots and won’t cost you an arm and a leg in the process. $35.

Still got those nostalgic cassette tapes lying around? It’s only a matter of time before your precious tunes within them disappear forever as time and the elements aren’t really kind to that type of media. Preserve those demo recordings or bootlegged audio in digital format with the Grace Tape2USB recorder. It plays (and records) cassette tapes in the deck and with the combined Audacity recording software in your PC or Mac, rips the sound into MP3 or WAV format. Do what you want with the resulting digital files – store them in your HDD or include them in your playlist for retro listening. The Tape2USB also has a 2.5″ mono speaker if you wish to listen to your cassettes or hook them up to larger speakers via the RCA jack. $100.
