Olympus Stylus SH 1

Taking a picture could be as simple as pointing your camera at your subject and clicking on some button. But for truly wonderful results, you have to really think about your composition and shoot properly. That means holding the camera as steady as you can. Sometimes it works, oftentimes it doesn’t. Enter the new Olympus Stylus SH-1. The classic PEN style camera may have a throwback body but hidden underneath are modern features. This includes the 5-axis image stabilization which you can use for photos and videos. A first for compact cameras, that feature is truly useful for canceling image/video blur due to camera shake. You’ll notice the effect really well when you’re shooting on longer focal lengths, which the Stylus SH-1 has plenty of. The included lens has a 24x zoom lens, which, when converted to 35mm speak, translates to about 25-600mm. That’s pretty long so a good stabilization unit would come in handy when you’re shooting long distance. Image-wise, the camera takes them on a 16MP CMOS sensor with a 1/2.3″ dimension. That sensor is helped along by a TruePic VII image processing unit plus a Face Detection AF. Olympus even offers a bunch of accessories for the Stylus SH-1 to give it that truly vintage vibe. $400.
