They may not be the media platform of choice for higher-end digital SLRs but SDHC cards are growing by leaps and bounds. Panasonic’s latest offering, the RP-SDY08G and RP-SDY16G offers not only a large capacity, but faster transfer speeds and power failure protection. The new Class 10 cards follow the UHS-1 standard for SD card manufacturers with a read/write speed of up to 60MB/s. The risk of accidentally unplugging the card while reading or when power suddenly cuts off is real, so the Power Failure Protection function is very much needed to recover lost data in case of an unforeseen event. The 8GB and 16GB cards will be available in November. $TBA.
