Sony Alpha 77 M2

If the battle has indeed shifted away from megapixels towards autofocus point counts, then everybody wins in the camera wars. Sony has certainly upped the game with the introduction of the Alpha 77 M2. A follow up to the A77 of 2011, this new iteration surprises the photography world with its 79-point Phase Detection AF System. This currently holds the record for most AF points in a camera. True photographers would understand the importance of focus in every shot. It could mean the difference between a keeper or a missed opportunity. It could mean sharp focus on the nose when you’re really after the eyes for portraits. Or focusing on the grass at the soccer match when you’re really shooting at your kids. With the incredible density of focus points on the Alpha 77 M2, you’re at least guaranteed a capable camera that’s a bit forgiving. Combined with a 24.3MP APS-C CMOS sensor plus a BIONZ image processor, the Alpha 77 M2 should be good for shooting a wide variety of events. Even low light situations are fair game, thanks to the 25,600 ISO capability of the camera. And with a 12fps frame rate, it’s lightning fast as well. Display is courtesy of a 3-inch tilting LCD which will come in handy if you’re the type who shoots at crazy low or high angles. Video would also be enjoyable, thanks to the Full HD shooting capability of the Alpha A77 M2. Everything is housed in a magnesium chassis with weather sealing to let you shoot when conditions get tough. The camera is available as a body-only option or with an attached lens. $1,200+.
